The Lost

 The Lost

A happy ever after, it could have been,
Living in a dream, a fairytale scene.
But you and I, a disaster's design,
A truth I should have known, a bitter, cruel wine.

Intoxicated by the stories they spun,
I saw the mischief where I should have run.
Despite the whispers, the doubts in my heart,
I trusted you, a fatal, foolish start.

Now I'm alone, a hollowed-out shell,
Once rich with love, now a living hell.
You wanted it all, my love's golden gleam,
And I, so dumb, let you into my dream.
I should have run, when I had the chance,
Instead, I surrendered to your hypnotic dance.
Now all that's left is a numb, aching void,

A love betrayed, a future destroyed.
I gave you all, my skin, my soul, my best,
My finest jewels, put you to the test.
You stole it all, for someone brand new,
Gave away my sins, my ecstasy, too.

To someone lesser, not worth half my worth,
My Robin Hood, you pillaged my earth.
They sing your praises, your golden facade,
But they don't know the price that I've paid.
What would they say, if they knew the truth,

The source of your gold, in my stolen youth?
Just another victim, a game you could play,
A feeling I had, but I pushed it away.

Now there's no 'us,' only echoes remain,
Of a love that was lost, a heart filled with pain.
A happy ever after, turned to dust and despair,
A lesson learned, a burden to bear.
